Seattle Engagement Photography

I spent this past weekend in the Seattle area meeting with clients and shooting engagement sessions. This morning as I imported Saturdays first session, I found this shot I took while waiting for my couple and thought I would share it. This is the view from Kerry Park in the Queen Ann neighborhood of Seattle. Everyone knows the space needle on the left and that’s Mt. Rainier in the distance.

Shoot with Beckstead Photos

I’m back! I finally had the chance to finish processing my photos from the Shoot With Beckstead Seminar from last week. There was around 10 photographers from the NW that also took part in the two day shoot and we had a blast. Our first shoot was at Reser Stadium where the Beavers try to play football (Go Ducks!). It’s actually a really nice stadium and I can’t wait until the Ducks beat the Beavs there this Winter. Following that shoot we drove about a half an hour to The Ranch on Beaver Creek in Lebanon, Oregon. Phil & Susanne are opening for business this summer and they have a beautiful place out there. Finally, we had a night shoot in downtown Corvallis where we setup a video light to help illuminate our model. That’s a pretty cool method and I hope to get a light this summer to capture some similar shots. Here are a bunch of my favorites and make sure to comment.

Neither Rain, nor Sleet, nor Snow

Friday morning I left early for Brad & Ashleigh’s wedding in Bend, OR. As I’m sure you can recall, Friday is when it was snowing in Portland despite being late March. A few miles west of Detroit, I lost control and found myself on the verge of rolling down this steep incline into Detroit Lake a couple hundred feet below. Fortunately, a nice size rock kept me from going any further and minimized the potential damage to both my wife’s car and myself. Within a minute I had a few good Samaritans there to help. Unfortunately, two more vehicles lost control across the Hwy and hit one-another (It wasn’t just me!!!). The local fire department and Forest Service showed up to check on all of us and luckily there wasn’t any injuries. I called AAA and had a tow truck drag me out so I could continue on my way. Just in case you can’t wait for the blog update about A&B’s wedding, it was awesome and totally worth the near death experience Stay tuned to see a few of their photos in a couple of days.

Relaxing in Yaak Montana

As the wedding season approaches, my wife and I are tyring to get as much time together as possible and there is no better place than our cabin in Yaak, Montana. We hadn’t been there since late December and were a little worried of what we might find because of the heavy snowfall. Fortunately, we only had one minor problem…part of the handrail along the deck was knocked off from heavy snow sliding off the roof. We arrived at 1:30 in the morning to a full moon and a driveway with 2+ feet of snow on it. As a result, we had to park on the road and carry up all of our bags as well as our cat, Kootenai (1/8th of a mile). Of course, I sank through the snow while Sunshine was able to walk on top of it. We had a great time hanging out, playing cards, monopoly, and hiking around with our dog. On Sunday we helped out at the Troy East Egg hunt which Sunshine’s mom coordinates for the their small community.

Brides Against Breast Cancer

Last week I had a couple of brides that wanted me to attend the Brides Against Breast Cancer dress sale with them and their girlfriends (they were looking for photos…not my advice on dresses!). While I was there I met the founder, Fran Hanson, who invited me to volunteer as well as take photos of the event. Friday & Saturday were spent doing “go-backs” and Sunday I brought some gear and took a few shots. I also wanted to try to raise a few $$$ for the Making Memories Foundation so I worked Friday night to develop a drawing for some discounts and one free package. While I will be doing the drawing today, it is important to note that 10% of the packages I book from the event will be donated back to the Foundation. I really enjoyed taking part in the event and am looking forward to partnering up again next year. Here are some shots from the sale and a link to the gallery.
